Harper ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before Doomsday. Please Read Part ONE first. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jonathan woke up to a beautiful sunrise. Katrina had fallen asleep, and her arm had fallen on Jonathan's shoulder. "Good morning, Katrina." he whispered. She stirred, yawned, and woke up. She moved her arm down and streched, and snuggled by him to keep warm. Jonathan took off his jacket and used it as a blanket on both of them. "Good morning." "Good morning. A beautiful sunrise, isn't it?" "No more beautiful than you." "Thanks," she blushed. "I'm not looking my best right now, though." "So? You still look good." "You want to go to my hut and get warm?" "Sounds good to me." Jonathan got up, and put his jacket on Katrina. They walked to her hut and Jonathan shook himself off. Then they entered. Katrina started making some hot choclate, and Jonathan sat down in the sofa. "Nice room you've got." "Thanks." Jonathan whispered something into Chris, and then hid Chris underneath the sofa while Katrina wasn't watching. He got up and asked, "You want any help?" "Nah, I'm almost done anyway." She stirred the two mugs of hot choclate and then gave one to Jonathan. They walked over to the sofa, and sat down. Immediatly, some Christmas music started to play. "You little kit," Katrina shook her head in disbelief. "You planned that." "That's right." Jonathan smiled. "Okay, I'll play along." Right then, some snow began to fall, rather heavily. They sipped their hot choclate, savouring its flavor. When Jonathan finished, he again complimented Katrina. Then he added, "Get your jacket on. Let's go out to the back. I got a little surprise for you." "Okay..." Jonathan put on his jacket and stepped outside. He formed a snowball, and patiently waited for Katrina to come out. When she stepped outside, she was immediatly clobbered with the snowball. As white filled her vision, she heard Jonathan say, "SURPRISE!" She cleared the snow from her eyes and quickly formed a snowball. She jumped and in the air launched the snowball at Jonathan, hitting him squarely in the stomach. "INCOMING!" As Jonathan got back up, she ran and his behind a tree. She formed another snowball, and prepared for another shot. A glance at him showed that he was making a "snow dagger." Katrina lauched her ball at his dagger, effectivly knocking it apart. He dropped and made a snowball, and then lauched it at her. She jumped sidways, avoiding the speedy ball. She taunted "Missed me, Missed me, now you gotta kiss me!" "If you insist!" Jonathan ran toward her, and was nearly hit by a snowball, just skimming his fur. It hit with a -KERSPLAT- on another object. He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, and then noticed that Tails was the object that the misfire had collided with. "Hey Tails! Watcha doin'?" he asked, almost forgeting the previous day. "Where'd you put it?" Tails angrily asked Jonathan. "Put what?" "My candy!" "I won't tell. But I will tell you one thing. 'Think up'." Tails lifted into the air and headed back to Knothole. "Oh well. I could as easily get more from J.P." Jonathan and Katrina continued there snowball fight. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "WHAT! WHY NOT!" Tails screamed. "I don't have enough money! I can't buy any more!" "Well, but, but, but, but..." "You're sputtering." "But what could I give you?" "Hmmm. Well...there is one thing...let me whisper it into your ear." He whispered into his ear. "What! I can't steal those!" "You can't?" "Because...that's stealing! Especially THOSE!" "Why not?" "They were family treasures! I can't take them! They'll KILL me!" "No they won't. But, if you don't, I can't give you any more candy till then." Tails sighed. "Alright." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bunnie Rabbot placed a small medallion on a display. She loved that medallion. Her grandfather had won that medal. When he was a young teenager, he had run in track. Bunnies are faster than most animals, so he won the race. (He was no match for Sonic, but he was long dead before he was born.) She turned into another room. Then a the window shook and was opened. A brown fox climbed in and pulled off the medal from the display and jumped out. He shut the window. Bunnie came back into the room with another personal object, and placed it beside the display...and noticed the medal was gone. "No" she thought. She searched the floor. Then she ran out to Sally's hut, tears beginning to form in her eyes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "So you just left the room for a few seconds, and then, the medal was gone without a trace?" "Thaht's what ah told yah." "This is not good. Who could be fast enough to take it in all of 3 seconds?" Both chorused, "Sonic?" "No way! He wouldn't do something like that!" "Cahn we aht least check?" "I guess...but he won't be happy." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sonic was in his hut, enjoying one of his favorite pasttimes (other than running of course). Sleep. It was about 8:00 in the morning, when Sally knocked on the door. Sonic stirred, but didn't wake up. Bunnie knocked with her robot arm, and nearly broke down the door. Which was good, cause he was STILL asleep. Sally instead turned the knob and let herself in. She went down to the bed, and whispered, "Sonic?" He rolled over had whispered, "Yeah?" "Get up now Sonic." "Why?" "Why do you think?" He opened his eyes half way. "Well?" "Because," Sally began whipering, then shouted, "WE THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE STOLEN BUNNIE'S MEDAL!" Sonic almost popped out of bed. "Why do you think that, Sal?" "She went into another room for all of 3 seconds. Then her medal was gone." "Hmm. Well, until now, I've been asleep." "Really? NICOLE, scan room for Bunnie's medal." A green light filled the room for a few seconds. "<>" "Oh...Sorry Sonic." "Hey," he groaned, "no problem." "Right." Sonic got up. "Ya mind? I gotta go get a shower." "'Kay, Sonic." The two women walked out of the room. "Imagine! Me, taking one of Bunnie's things. I didn't even know she HAD a medal," he thought. Sonic headed into his bathroom. A pair of paws lifted the window, and the body followed into his hut. A small watch, owned by Sonic's father, caught his eye. He grabbed it and jumped out of the window, and closed it. Sonic had taken a "super sonic shower," and came into the main part of the hut. He was still thinking about the thief, and decided to look around his room to see if anything had disappeared. His eyes fell to most of his personal objects...then he noticed the place where his watch was. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "So the same thing happened to you, except to your father's watch?" "Exactly." "Who would want your watch, other than you?" "I don't know. All I know is first I saw it, then I didn't." "Maybe we should check the other freedom fighter's huts. Just to be sure that none of them took it." Unknown to them, the thief had heard every word, and had decided to place the valuables in a hole in a tree. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- After about an hour, every freedom fighter, Antoine, Tail's, Rotor, Bunnie, Sonic, Sally, and even Dulcy had an expensive, personal item taken from them. Antoine's gold bars he wore on special occasions, Tail's mother's necklace, Rotor's trophy of engineering excellence (before the coup), Bunnie's medal, Sonic's watch, Sally's braclet, and Dulcy's gold thing that only a dragon would know what to do with had been stolen. "Who's been taking this stuff? I mean, it would have to be someone other than the freedom fighters! The thief would have to know that the items were there. They'd have to be quick, but Sonic's already been ruled out. They'd have to be small enough to hide and find out when no one's in the room. Who, other than the freedom fighter's had all that?" The thief rubbed his neckfur. He felt a little guilty. But he knew that he wouldn't for long. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Okay, J.P., I got your stuff. Now give me the CANDY!" "Hmm." J.P. looked through the bag. Tail's had removed his mother's necklace though. "The gold bars, the trophy, the medal, the watch, the bracelet, the gold thing. It's all here. Very well. One piece for every object." J.P. pulled out 6 pieces of candy. "Here you go!" "Only one?" "Take it or leave it." "I thought that since that's only 6 pieces... come on, man! For all the trouble I went to?" "Alright. Two more pieces. This stuff is really expensive!" "I'll assume so."
